Repeated daily up for grabs chores start unassigned every day
David Weller
I want any of my three children to be able to compete for a single chore. A repeated up for grabs chore that is assigned specific amount on completion, such as dishes, that is a repeating chore but only allows to be selected and completed by one child each day, first come first served. Today one an up for grabs repeating chore is selected by a child, all reoccurrence are assigned to that child. If a daily repeating chores has all three children assigned, all three can mark as done and get paid, it should only be paid for the first child to make it.

Up-for-Grabs Chores Not Resetting After Completion

Hello Greenlight Support Team,
I’m writing to report an issue with how “Up for Grabs” chores function in the app.
For chores that are set to repeat (weekly), once a child grabs the chore the first time, it appears to remain assigned to that child permanently instead of going back up for grabs for the next cycle. This defeats the purpose of using the “Up for Grabs” option.
The intent is for these chores to reset and be available for competition each time they repeat. When they stay assigned after the first grab, one child ends up holding all the chores, motivation drops, and other children begin skipping or avoiding the most important household tasks.
To work as intended, repeating “Up for Grabs” chores need to:
• Reset after completion
• Return to the Up for Grabs pool each cycle
• Not stay permanently assigned once claimed the first time
Please let me know if this is a known issue, a setting I’m missing, or a feature that can be updated. This functionality is critical for keeping chores fair, motivating, and completed consistently.
Thank you for your help,
Myranda

Hi Jackie - any help you can provide getting this feature prioritized would be really helpful. The current state of “up for grabs” is pretty useless for daily things, like feeding the dog, that either of my kids should be able to claim and do.

Another vote from me! I assumed this is how it would work when I set it up, but was disappointed to find out that all recurring chores were assigned to the first child to claim it. Please update this feature!
Jackie
Thanks for your feedback, Adam! We’ll pass this along.

100% on this feature. It’s essential and I’m really surprised that it’s not automatically how repeating up-for-grabs chores work. I can’t imagine preferring for it to be permanently assigned. PLUS, I would say the parent should be able to unassign and put a chore back up for grabs if the situation warrants it or the parent just prefers to be up-for-grabs going forward.
Jackie
We hear you, Kristin. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Agree. I was chatting with support because I assumed thats how up for grabs chores worked, but it is not.

I agree! I love the up for grabs chores, but in our house, I prefer that repeating up for grabs chores aren’t permanently assigned to one child. So that one child can claim one occurrence and another a future occurrence. I typically use this function for paid chores.

i came to make this same request! They claim a repeating shore and it's permanent. And on my end, I can't even unassign/reassign it. i can edit all but the assignee.
Jackie
Stephen Rowe: Thanks for your feedback, Stephen! We’ll pass this along.

Agreed, future occurrences of Up For Grabs should not automatically assigned.
