To properly teach and manage finances, data must be accessible to help the user understand the trends and habits of their spending. Note that all the periods below are configurable (YTD, Last 12, QTD, MTD, etc). For example,
  • A chart that shows $ spent over the last 6 months by vendor.
  • A chart that shows expenses by category (fuel, games, restaurants, shopping, etc) over the last quarter.
  • A chart that shows total spending by month YTD. Show how much they are spending by month.
  • A chart that shows total spending and total income by month YTD. Show how income matches up with expenses.
  • A chart that shows savings or investing by month YTD. Let them see it grow or not.
  • A report that can be filtered by date, vendor, category, $, etc.
If children don't know where they are spending their money and are just living in the moment, how do they understand the implications of their habits? Good or bad. So many of these charts/ reports would be so helpful. Right now, you can't analyze anything. There isn't any reporting. You can't even filter the history. You must manually enter the data (from your phone) into another tool like Google Sheets or Excel to make sense of anything. But that is extremely tedious and cumbersome. One item at a time.
